You ever get the feeling youâre doing things in your business â posting, commenting, sending stuff out, but, you know, youâre not really sure if itâs actually working? You feel busy but maybe not effective? I was chatting with my mentor, Jason Fox, a while back, and he basically said, âLook, we canât improve anything if youâre not actually hitting some KPIs and seeing the numbers.â Makes total sense. You canât get better if youâre not measuring. Posting here and there, hoping for the best⌠itâs just not a solid plan. So, I needed to track my daily actions. My first thought? Google Sheets. Honestly? It just felt a bit clunky and, well, kinda ugly 𤣠Iâm always a sucker for a pretty UI if I can help it! Plus, editing spreadsheets on mobile is a pain, and I didnât fancy being tied to the desktop for it. I looked at some dedicated KPI tools too, like one Jason made which was pretty neat with a little ticker thing. But it was another app which meant another expense. And my whole philosophy is about Systematic Freedom â simplifying things, bringing them together, reducing stress, not adding another login subscription. I really wanted something that could live inside ClickUp if possible, keeping everything in one place. Turns out, it wasnât too difficult at all. I ended up making this super simple KPI tracker list right inside ClickUp.
No clunky spreadsheets I didnât want to use. No jumping between different apps for the data. Itâs all right there in ClickUp. And because I like tinkering, especially with AI lately, I even built myself a little one-page KPI tracker on the web. Itâs just got plus/minus buttons for my metrics that sync straight back to ClickUp. Pretty cool what you can build yourself now to scratch your own itch! Check out what it looks like here: Custom KPI Trackerâ But the main point is this: getting your tracking sorted doesnât have to be complicated. Itâs about clarity. Knowing whatâs actually working so you can do more of it. Itâs about, you know, swapping that guesswork for a proper strategy. And ultimately, itâs about building a business that supports your life, not the other way around. You want to free up your time and headspace for family, for living đş Thatâs the Systematic Freedom weâre aiming for. So, if tracking feels like another chore youâre avoiding, maybe itâs time to bring it inside ClickUp and simplify. Curious how a streamlined ClickUp setup, including simple KPI tracking like this, could work for you? Read the longer online version of this week's newsletter here. I've been playing with ClickUp AI a lot lately and discovered some really useful things that it can do. I'll talk about AI agents in a future issue (check out a preview of the work on LinkedIn). But today I want to give you a prompt that saved me hours last week. If you're managing multiple clients in ClickUp, you need a quick way to get an overview of each one. Usually this involves delving into the tasks, seeing what meetings...
I was testing out a new camera this week and thought it was the perfect chance to share a little automation for agency and business owners who live in ClickUp. You need a space for your team to collaborate, revise, and handle all the internal back-and-forth. But you want your client's view to be clean, simple, and professional. They don't need them seeing your internal notes of, "ergh why are they asking for another revision!?" This quick automation creates a perfect separation between your...
So yeah, weâre all chasing that same dream. Having one app to rule them all. A single, perfect system where our tasks, projects, and all our awesome ideas can live and work together in perfect harmony. But what if that dream is actually a trap? What if putting everything in one bucket, especially a project management tool like ClickUp (which I love), is quietly sabotaging your most valuable asset? That asset is your thinking. This is why I practice something I call The âSecond Brainâ Split....
